“GAINING UNDERSTANDING OF THE WILL OF GOD”
Ephesians 5:17
Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
Life rarely moves slowly. We are surrounded by urgent demands and competing voices, we can easily slip mindlessly into a routine falling into spiritual complacency. Paul issues a direct call for us to wake up: He encourages us to not live thoughtlessly, but to actively discern the will of God.
Foolishness here does not mean a lack of intellect; it means living without God’s perspective. We often treat discovering God’s will like solving an elusive mystery, wondering about future decisions, careers, or locations. Yet Scripture reveals that His will begins with our daily practice of seeking Him. His will is found in living right, loving others sacrificially, and cultivating a quiet heart attentive to the Holy Spirit.
Gaining true understanding of the will of God demands active participation. We are to meditate upon His word, be still and quiet before Him, and examine whether our daily decisions align with God’s character rather than simply serving our own personal comfort.
When you face decisions today—large or small—refuse to act out of impulse. Instead, ask: “Is this the will of God for me in this decision? “Do I really have peace about this, or is this something I think I ought to do?
Clarity comes as we draw near to Him. Seek His guidance with a willing heart, trusting that He faithfully reveals His plan and purpose to those who are willing to listen.
THINK ABOUT IT:
If we spend our days racing to fulfill our own plans, how can we ever claim we are truly seeking the Lord’s will?
