SKIMMING PAST GOD’S WORD”
Psalm 119:15
I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.
Our cell phones send us constant digital alerts that relentlessly demand our attention. Our attention is constantly pulled in dozens of different directions. We often skim the truth of God’s Word rather than absorb it, settling for a quick glance when God invites us into a deep, steady focus on Him.
The psalmist offers a better plan: meditation and focus. In biblical terms, meditation is not emptying the mind, but filling it. It means turning God’s words over in your heart like a smooth stone in your palm, letting His truth reshape your desires, quiet your fears, and guide your daily decisions. To “fix your eyes” means making a conscious choice to align your focus with His ways, rather than drifting with the current of your circumstances.
What captures your attention will naturally shape your life. When anxiety or doubt creeps in today, hit the pause button. Resist the urge to rush past Scripture. Speak God’s promises back to Him, consider His faithfulness, and deliberately fix your eyes on Christ. Anchoring your mind in God’s Word brings steady peace and quiet confidence for every step you take today.
THINK ABOUT IT:
How often do we quickly skim past God’s Word in search of answers, rather than lingering long enough to let His ways actually transform our hearts?
