“THE LORD IS MY HELPER”
Hebrews 13:6
So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”
Fear often begins with an overestimation of human power and an underestimation of God’s Divine Presence. When confronted with trying circumstances, harsh criticism, or changing life seasons, our natural response is often a sense of helplessness. Yet the writer of Hebrews doesn’t tell us to muster up self-reliance; the boldness here is entirely borrowed from God’s character. Just one verse earlier comes the bedrock promise: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
Our confidence does not come from being optimistic—it directly reflects the promise of God’s covenant. Because He is present, He is actively working on our behalf. This does not mean people cannot harm our bodies, reputations, or plans; history shows that people can indeed inflict deep pain. Rather, it means no earthly force holds ultimate authority over your soul, your identity, or your eternal security.
Human threats shrink to their proper proportion when your security is grounded in the steadfast Presence of God. Whatever you face today—a difficult conversation, an uncertain job, or an intimidating opponent—you do not enter it alone. You are equipped to address feelings of anxiety with firm confidence: the Lord serves as your helper.
THINK ABOUT IT:
Why do our hearts instinctively measure the size of the threat in front of us, rather than the limitless strength of the God beside us?
