Jeremiah 17:7-8
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”
Jeremiah makes a distinct but profound shift in this single verse: it begins with trusting in the Lord, and ends by declaring that the Lord is our trust. True biblical dependence is not merely asking God to bless our plans or treat Him as a backup resource when our strength fails. It means God Himself becomes the source and object of our security. When circumstances shift like sand beneath our feet, our confidence does not rest in the stability of our environment, our bank accounts, or our abilities. It rests entirely on His unchanging character.
The very next verse paints the picture of what this looks like: a tree whose roots reach deep into a living stream. The heat still arrives, and seasons of drought still come, but the tree remains lush and fruitful. The drought has no power over the tree because its life is fed from a source hidden beneath the surface.
When you place your full weight on God today, By placing your complete trust in God today, your soul finds its anchor in living water. There is no need to dread life’s challenges. Root your thinking in His constant presence, surrender your control to Him, and allow Him to serve as your ultimate foundation.
